My Broken Phone

My phone isn’t sending texts right now. It’s waiting for activation, whatever that means. So, when I tried to send a thank-you text to someone who helped me out, it didn’t go through.

This had a bigger effect on me than I thought it would. I was suddenly uncomfortable at the prospect of telling them thanks in real life. I realized that I am afraid of sincerity.

As grateful as I am for my phone, it has become a cop-out. I used it for all the times I wanted to thank someone, apologize, or simply be sincere. It saved me from the discomfort of looking into someone’s eyes and telling them how I really felt. A text message will never replicate that.
