I’ve been tinkering with a note-taking app, Napkin, these past few weeks. They pushed out a ReadWise integration that imports all of your kindle highlights into their system. It’s pretty awesome.
The idea of Napkin is simple: it uses AI to tag all your notes and shows you related ideas when you are looking at each notecard. It helps you create connections.
Through my exploration, I couldn’t help but feel that there was something incredibly amazing about the softwares available to the everyday user. I don’t even have to write my own notes — I can highlight quotes on kindle and they appear in my note-taking databases that help me forge connections.
Whether we lose something through this ease, I am not here to discuss. But, I do want to focus on how we can adapt to new technologies.
As AI achieves more and more, we’re left to adapt. ChatGPT has made it so it’s no longer enough for a writer simply to relay information. Writers must be more personal than ever before. So, what do these note-taking systems offer?
I want to depart from this exploration by relating a recent experience I had with during an internship. I’ve been working independently for a few years now — independence is something I’ve always valued and continue to emphasize in my life.
